If this is your first time in Basel, this is where I recommend  you to start. As the Swiss capital for art and culture, a pharmaceutical empire, home to the biggest carnival in Switzerland and a history dating all the way back the Celts and ancient Rome, Basel will provide us a  lot to talk about. I will take you through the little streets and avenues of the Old Town including some of its hidden corners

Jewish Heritage Tour

In one of his diaries, Benjamin Theodor Herzl wrote: "In Basel I founded the Jewish state". As the home for the first Zionist congress, Basel played a major role in the formation of Zionism as a political movement. In this tour, we will briefly cover the general history of Basel to understand the three Jewish communities it has been home to, over the years. We will get to see the very balcony on which Herzl stood reflectively with the Rhein River in the background, and even have an opportunity to visit the Stadt Casino - the very concert hall where Herzl had presented the Zionist dream for the very first time in 1897.

Duration: 2-2.5

Ideal for: Families with children above 12 years

Important to know: Visiting the Stadt Casino requires an adequate notice in advance for coordination purposes.

Clients' Testimonials from around the World

Let my clients tell you how they found their experience with me

Steve, Florida

Gil was awesome, very informative and personable. Took us to some outstanding places to try some local cuisine. We tried dishes from not just Switzerland but Germany, France and Israel. Top praises for Gil Highly recommend him!

Peter, London

We had a wonderful afternoon tour with Gil. He provided a great mix of culture and history while introducing us to the personality of this beautiful city. We were able to see all of the highlights including a stop for some delicious Swiss chocolate. We highly recommend Gil when visiting Basel!

Cynthia, new york

We learned so much about Swiss history and culture as well as European history. The mixture of valuable Jewish history mixed in, was incredibly interesting as well. We learned more in 2 hours than we did in school for years. I highly recommend Gil for his knowledge, his friendliness and his ability to communicate history across language barriers.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
